The 3rd Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition
The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising FIDM is holding a wonderful exhibition until September 28th, featuring costumes from some of the best television shows nominated for The Emmy Awards.
I got my invitation last week. On the cover a beautiful sketch of Angelica Houston, wearing a gorgeous red gown, designed by none other than super talented Bob Mackie and commissioned by the Costume Designers Guild for Angelica Houston to wear as Mistress of Ceremonies during the Guild’s 10th Anniversary Awards.

I was so happy to attend this event. The exhibit was as always, immaculate, and the cocktail party so fun, out in the open terrace, during a warm summer evening, by far the best way to meet the designers, curators, and friends.
Some of the costumes in display include: The Tudors, Greek, Scrubs, Project Runway, Mad Men, Pushing Daisies,
and retro costumes from the ’70’s and ’80’s, such as The Carol Burnett Show. This is an amazing opportunity to watch, up-close the beautiful craftsmanship and glamour on each of the costumes on display.
A little piece of history:
The first Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design was given to Bob Mackie in 1970, for Diana Ross and The Supremes and The Temptetaions on Broadway.
Since 1970, over 100 statues have been awarded in various categories related to the the art of Costume Design.
